One thing is for sure, this game is still going for 29.99 as of February 2022 which is asking a lot when this game is less than Stronghold 2 in every way but the graphics (which do look decent).
GAME TO REPLACE STRONGHOLD 2 GAME STYLE MOD
To me this makes it all feel like a glorified demo. The mod replaced the very few Pride flags the game actually has with the already prevalent USA flag texture from the game. The campaigns are much more limited, feeding you slices of the total game at a time. Furthermore, skirmishes let you do all of this on a variety of maps. Most notably, it is rendered in 3D, which brings a considerably newfound look and gameplay design, making unit control easier and gives a more realistic feel for the game. 1/ Is there a way to edit the keeps you get from the start of the game, or rather change them 2/ Is there a way to change your starting unit and how (Asset file modifications and what not) With that being said, does that mean it's prossible to start with Arabian units 3/ Is there a way to add the laddersmen since they are in the game files. Stronghold 2 improves and retains a lot of concepts of Stronghold. It was initially released April 2005 by Take 2 Entertainment and 2K Games.

All you need to know to change them to my health values is the following: Replace the old value with the new value after the semi colon. The Steam Edition also updates Stronghold 2 with full Steam Workshop integration, allowing to you easily create and share custom maps with friends. Skirmishes let you utilize the full array of units and buildings the game has. Stronghold 2 (SH2) is the sequel to Stronghold. The units I know are labeled, the remaining are civilians or nature related.

Skirmishes allow you to enjoy the combat, economic, and castle building aspects of the game integrated together. But the biggest killer is the lack of skirmishes. There are other complaints I could type, but you can just read my review of the game on here if you want. Considering that this game relied on Steam from the very beginning (even the original edition of Stronghold 3 on DVD-Rom required a steam account to play), and that Gold edition was released through Steam, it makes zero sense that there isn't steam workshop support for the user created maps. Stronghold 3: Gold Edition was released several months after Steam Workshop came out in 2011.

They aren't simplified in support of making a particular gameplay style more streamlined (like Legends made simplifications to support the fast paced combat in the game), it's just less complex. But to take away gameplay mechanics as well as the skirmish from the second? That's lazy.

It's the only game in the series not to have a skirmish/kingmaker mode besides the original (which can be forgiven as its the first in the series). The mechanics are simplified from Stronghold 2 (although I don't miss having to have gong pits, so I do like that that functionality was integrated with the apothecar).

Until October 12, you’ll be able to pick it up for £10.19/$12.74/€12.74, but it’s a free upgrade if you already own the original game on Steam. After playing it for a while I have to say I think yes, it is that bad. Stronghold 2: Steam Edition is out now on Steam, obviously, with a 15% launch discount. It’s part RTS, part sim, part economics game, and while each individual element has been done better since, Stronghold 2 does a good job of combining them.

And while the original supported the creation of custom maps, you can now use the Steam Workshop to share and download them.ĭespite being a bit ambivalent about castles ever since I was attacked by a ferocious wasp in one 25 years ago, I’ve got fond memories of Stronghold 2. That’s a pretty good reason to upgrade, but the Steam Edition also introduces plenty of extra features.Īchievements, Steam cards, six new maps and improved graphics round out the enhancements. Or at least it didn't have official support, though with some faffing around you could play using GameRanger. Until last week, the only way to get Stronghold 2 on Steam was inside the Stronghold Collection, but it didn’t have multiplayer support after Gamespy’s demise. Best of all: it’s free if you’ve got the original. Last week, it popped up on Steam in a new edition that reintroduces multiplayer while adding achievements, new maps and more. Exiting map editor and entering a game of Kingmaker will not fix this bug, and the black void will appear in-game. This void remains until the game is restarted. you can only repair walls and towers not gatehouse you just have to replace them and thay dont show a crack till its to late. Launched in 2005, Stronghold 2 is a castle sim that tasks you with managing a medieval fortress where you can throw fancy parties, organise jousting tournaments, bully peasants and duke it out with other lords over who gets to rule the land. Simply, when a waterfall is placed too close to the edge of the map, any incline or change in terrain height is replaced with a black void.
